However, it was in 1976 when he made his first major appearance on British screens as Granville for almost 10 years in the popular TV comedy series Open All Hours again working with Ronnie Barker, and this was closely followed by Lucky Feller in which he played Shorty Mepstead.
Although David is best known for comedy, his darker, dramatic roles can be a revelation and his portrayal of the Cambridge porter Skullion in the TV mini-series of Tom Sharpe's novel Porterhouse Blue in 1987 was unforgettable.
In 1989 David returned to comedy to play Ted Simcock in the series A Bit of a Do and in 1991 David created yet another major well known comedy figure in the shape of Pop Larkin in the TV series The Darling Buds of May which ran for three years.

I've only seen Hardware and My New Best Friend and my New Best Friend picks up the award, the programme was well planned out with great characters and a bit different from your typical comedy series or prank comedy.
Has to be Teachers its the only one with any comedy in it.
Comedy hasn't been good for the past few years, Room 101 has been ruined and the only memorable comedies are the new Series of I'm Alan Partridge, Teachers and Little Britain.
