 Dietetics
It is a benchmark describing the nature and standards of undergraduate programmes of study in dietetics that lead to awards made by higher education institutions in the UK in the subject.
This document was produced in May 2002 by the British Dietetic Association in response to the 'Better Hospital Foods' project, and aims to "provide dieticians with a framework of standards for the provision of appropriate nutrition through food services in the NHS and other healthcare settings", in England.
The paper provides brief information about the BDA and the Nutrition Society, and discusses: why both dietitians and nutritionists are required; workforce development; pathways to training; the concerns associated with distinguishing properly qualified nutritionists; the Nutrition Society's approach to tackling this issue; and joint challenges to the nutrition forum.

The British Dietetic Association said a survey of 4,000 men and women found an obsession with "quick-fix" diets.
To try to help people diet more effectively, the British Dietetic Association has launched an internet guide, called bdaweightwise.com to offer practical advice and support, including a body mass index calculator and a home exercise programme.
The BDA survey also found that just 18% of dieters ever reach their target weight.

This position statement of the American Dietetic Association states that the "application of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and lifestyle counseling as a part of the Nutrition Care Process is an integral component of the medical treatment for management of specific disease states and conditions".
This document discusses: roles of the health care team; when to use medical nutrition therapy, pharmacotherapy, or both; potential adverse effects related to pharmacotherapy; use of complementary therapies with MNT and pharmacotherapy; chronic disease and medical nutrition therapy; diabetes mellitus and complications; obesity and complications; hypertension; and hyperlipidemia.
This audit, produced by the British Dietetic Association, is based on evidence that "providing appropriate nutrition and dietetic intervention at the right time can improve clinical outcome" for stroke patients.

The British Dietetic Association has launched “Weight Wise”, a month-long campaign to increase awareness of the benefits of a balanced diet in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
The British Dietetic Association advises that men who have a waist circumference of more than 37 inches and women with a waist size bigger than 32 inches are at increased risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.
Dr Helen Lloyd of the British Dietetic Association called on all adults to wise up to their waist measurement.

Interestingly survey data on British adults just out shows that 46% of men and 35% of women take sugar in coffee, the figures for tea are 34% and 32% respectively so for these people this might be a good start to cutting back.
