Grand Prix motor racing was first established in Britain by Henry Segrave at the Brooklands course in 1926 after his winning of the French Grand Prix in 1923 and the following year at the Spanish Grand Prix which raised interest in the sport.
In October 2004 the British Grand Prix was left off the preliminary race schedule for 2005 because the BRDC refused to pay the race fee demanded by Bernie Ecclestone.
The 2005 Grand Prix was an important race for all the drivers, especially Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen and Michael Schumacher.

The British Racing Drivers' Club (or BRDC) was founded in April 1928.
Since 1971 the club has owned the Silverstone Circuit and set in motion a major redevelopment of what had been a wartime bomber training base with a view to producing one of the world's foremost motor racing facilities.
Substantial funds are provided to the young British stars of tomorrow to help with their driving careers.

The 76 Racing Fuels F3 driver of the weekend award was presented to Adam Carroll, who finished less than a second behind Piquet on Sunday in his debut race for the Menu F3 Motorsport team.
BRDC member Rob Barff won the 76 Racing Fuels F3 driver of the weekend award for battling home fourth with his Mosler stuck in fourth gear.

THE steering committee of the British Racing Drivers Club has revealed proposals to restructure the club's involvement with the Silverstone racing circuit.
The BRDC steering committee believes that BHL will not be able to get the necessary rebuilding work at the Kentish track completed in the time available (if at all) and that Silverstone could then be rented to BHL.
BRDC members will have to vote on the proposal in June.

One of the BRDC’s main objections to an initial one-year contract was the lack of time available to upgrade facilities, but with five years guaranteed, Bellm has time to plot a major overhaul.
The BRDC has always struggled to match the kind of money on offer from the government-funded grands prix such as those in China or Malaysia, but Bellm is adamant he has closed a deal which does not place undue pressure on his resources.

The Scot is adamant Ecclestone has given the BRDC a guarantee Silverstone, for a long time a thorn in the side of the sport’s ruling power broker, will host the British Grand Prix for 2005 and 2006.
The problem is the BRDC was earlier this year left out on a limb by the withdrawal of the Interpublic Group as promoter, which chose to cut its losses by paying Ecclestone’s Formula1 Management company £55million to extract itself from a deal which was due to run to 2015.
