In 410, Honorious instructed British towns to provide for their own defense, and when Constantine III was defeated and killed in 412, Rome was too weak to regain the lost British provinces, and they began to form their own distinctive culture (Colling- wood, 1949: 47).
This rea- lignment of power exacerbated class tensions, which were to erupt in the next century to challenge the monarchy, trans- ferring power from the crown to a fairly independent bureau- cratic apparatus.
Yet, despite the emergence of a powerful merchant and nas- cent industrial class, the mid 1500s were still dominated by great landowners, although the peasant revolt of 1549, the last major insurrection of its kind, challenged their hegem- ony both in politics and law.

Some of the smaller classes of locomotives were dealt with surprisingly quickly; in the case of the Class 55 'Deltics' D9002 became the first example outshopped in blue on the 20th October 1966, and D9014 the last, only three years later in November 1969.

Class 47 locomotive no. 47 460 appeared on the 3rd of April 1978 with an all over silver roof and red bufferbeams; and just to strike the message home a little harder, the depot applied wooden nameplates bearing the name 'Great Eastern'.

British Anarchism and the Miners Strike
While anarchisms that prioritised liberation from class domination were the dominant forms of libertarianism in Britain at the end of the nineteenth and the start of the twentieth century, by the early 198s5, versions of anarchism based on liberal concepts of agency had come to the fore in Anglo-American circles.
Class War, which is the eponymous newspaper of a non-syndicalist class struggle anarchist grouping, was also uncompromising in its active support for workers in struggle, even if it, too, had criticisms of formal union structures and its leadership (Class War, 1984eb: 3-5).
A further tactic advanced by Class War was 'open[ing] up a second front in the cities to back the miners' (Class War, 1984ec: 3), stretching the sites of resistance from coalfields to the general control of social and community life, and thereby invoking a wider view of the agent for (potential) change.

The British Rail Class 13 was formed because in 1965 it was found necessary to provide more powerful shunters for the Tinsley Hump Yard.
This was provided by permanently coupling together two Class 08 shunters as a 'master' and 'slave' unit, the latter with its cab removed.
Initially the units were coupled cab-to-cab but it was found more practical to couple Master nose to Slave cab.
