Rails of standard length which are welded together at the ends to form a single rail hundreds or thousands of feet in length are known as "continuous rail." Among the advantages claimed for continuous rail over standard length rail are a smoother track, longer service life, reduced maintenance cost and greater safety.
Rails ranging in weight from 50 to 152 pounds per yard are in use on the railroads of the United States.
The outer rail is elevated to balance the overturning forces that are set up by a train rounding a curve, for the same scientific reason that a circular track for motorcycle, bicycle or motorcar racing is tilted upward from the inner to the outer rim.

British Rail Class 253 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Class 253 and Class 254 were the classifications allocated to the production High Speed Train units.
The former class was used for Western Region sets, operating out of London Paddington, and the latter for Eastern Region sets, operating out of London King's Cross, since these regions used different formations - the Western Region [WR] used 2+7 sets, whilst the ER preferred 2+8 sets with a second buffet car.
In 2000, Class 255 was allocated for the reformation of certain HST power cars and trailers into semi-fixed formation trains, to be known as Virgin Challenger units, for use by Virgin Trains after the introduction of their new 'Voyager' trains (Classes 220 and 221).

British Rail Class 142 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The British Rail Class 142 is a class of "Pacer" diesel multiple units used in the United Kingdom.
The units from Cornwall were eventually moved to Manchester after problems with excessive wheel wear on the sharp curves of the Cornish branches (and complaints from the public due to excruciating squealing noises on curves) and the class 142 has become a common sight especially on services around the North West of England.
The class moved into the control of First North Western at privatisation and all of the surviving units are still in use.

 Social Classes - Proletariat
The extreme degree of economic concentration and class polarization can be further seen by the fact that only 6% of wage workers in the private sector work for the petty proprietors; the remaining 94% work for the capitalist class (employers of five or more workers).
The characteristics that distinguish this class from the petty-bourgeois strata of wage-earners are its separation from the responsibilities of management, the relatively greater weight of manual labor in its work, the relatively smaller amount of education required to carry out its work, and, for the great majority, lower wages and worse working conditions.
With the deepening of the economic crisis the capitalist class is forced to narrow the ranks of the labor aristocracy, reducing many to the position of common workers.
