British Columbia, Pacific Coast province in western Canada, bounded on the north by Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories; on the east by Alberta; on the south by the states of Montana, Idaho, and Washington; and on the west by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska.
British Columbia is represented by 36 members in the Canadian House of Commons and by six senators, appointed by the Canadian governor-general, in the upper house, or Senate of the federal government.
British claims to the region were strengthened by the arrival of Sir Alexander Mackenzie on the coast in 1793.

Locomotives of this class were the mainstay of Torrington branch freight and special passenger traffic during the 1970s.
The Class 31's went on to be the most successful of the Type 2's and could be found all over the BR network working all types of trains, although primarily remembered for their secondary passenger work.
Class 33’s also worked china clay traffic for a few years before the branch closed even though they were nominally too heavy to work south of Torrington.

British Rail Class 317 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They were the first of several classes of British Rail EMU to be based on the all-steel Mark 3 bodyshell, departing from the "PEP"-aluminium design which had spawned the earlier Class 313 to Class 315.
This unit was one of several loaned by WAGN to LTS Rail from 1996-1999, which involved the red stripe of the NSE livery being repainted green.
The Class 317 units enabled LTS Rail to replace the elderly Class 302 slam-door EMUs, the last examples of which were withdrawn in 1998.

Garry D. Watson, Class Actions: The Canadian Experience, 11 Duke J. of Comp. & Int'l L. 269 (2001)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Class certifications have not been awarded readily in the numerous verbal misrepresentation cases because of the apparent lack of a common issue and the presence of numerous individual issues.
The issue of settlement in class actions is always problematic because of the risk that plaintiff class counsel will, with or without colluding with the defendant, "sell out" the class (settle for less than the case is really worth) to gain what the counsel sees as a satisfactory fee.
Although it is apparent that some judges are unsympathetic to some class actions, on the whole, the Canadian judiciary seems to have recognized that class actions have an important and valuable role to play by affording access to justice to many who could never in their wildest dreams hope to litigate individually.

Items "Railroad Books, Section N through P" at Con-Cor International
One defining difference between rail technology in Britain and North America was that railroad building in North America was contingent on a potential market rather than an existing one.
Because North American railroads had to cover great distances and deal with hefty physical barriers, they developed powerful locomotives instead of building the costly engineering works customary in England.
The North American system therefore became a mirror image of the British model which had low-power locomotives and a superb infrastructure.
