The British Class 50 locomotives were among the most popular ever to run for British Rail, plying their trade on several different lines during their 27 years of service.
One is the Class 50 diesel-electric locomotive Valiant.
The last Class 50 locomotives to run for British Rail were 50 007 Hercules and 50 050 Fearless on a final farewell railtour from Waterloo to Exeter and back to Paddington in March 1994.

British Rail Class 43 (Warship Class) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The British Rail Class 43 diesel-hydraulic locomotives were built by the North British Locomotive Company from 1960-1962.
They were allocated Class 42 with the advent of TOPS, while those built by the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) were originally numbered D833-D865 allocated Class 43.
The NBL-built D800s were withdrawn before their Class 42 sisters, themselves doomed to a short life because of the decision to standardise on diesel-electric transmission for mainline locomotives.

 Class Room
The British Rail Class 41 diesel locomotives were built by the North British Locomotive Company in 1957.
Prior to the construction of the D800 series diesel-hydraulic 'Warship Class' (later Classes 42 and 43), five prototype locomotives of A1A-A1A wheel arrangement were constructed; D600-D604.
Like most NBL designs, these locomotives were not very successful, and were withdrawn before their Class 42 sisters, themselves doomed to a short life because of the decision to standardise on diesel-electric transmission for mainline locomotives.

 Railroad
Though the rail system was extremely slow at first and prohibitively expensive to build and run, the British were not to be dissuaded in their pursuit of non-animal driven transportation.
Some rails were still made of wood, others iron and the first trains traveled at the pace of 3.5 miles per hour, significantly slower than the horse drawn coach which traveled at a speed of 9-10 miles per hour.
For some of the population the British Rail System offered employment opportunities such as: men moving large amounts of dirt for tracks and tunnels; railway stations had to employ people to serve food and maintain the station; manual signalers were required; and people to actually work on the trains.
