The Selby rail crash was a high-speed train accident that occurred at Great Heck near Selby, North Yorkshire, England on the morning of February 28, 2001.
He then used a mobile telephone to call the emergency services and it was during this conversation that the initial collision occurred when the car was hit by a GNER Intercity 225 heading southbound from Newcastle to London King's Cross at over 120 mph.
It was subsequently deflected by rail infrastructure associated with a junction to nearby sidings into the path of an oncoming freight train travelling from Immingham to Ferrybridge hauled by a Class 66/5 No. 66521 about half a mile (642 metres) from the initial impact with the Land Rover.

EWS has a large fleet of both diesel and electric traction, from old British Rail models to the very latest Brush Traction and General Motors models.
Some of these locomotives were inherited from British Rail, and others have been purchased by EWS as part of a fleet renewal program.

The announcement by EWS in September 2000 that all surviving members of the class w ould be moved south (in exchange for newer Class 66s) to be allocated to Eastleigh, Hither Green (and Acton) finally qualifies this class for inclusion on Southern E Group pages.
The Class 58 design results from a 1977 requirement for a low cost easily maintainable heavy freight Co-Co locomotive with export potential, the introduction of the roughly contemporary Class 56 having been what could tactfully be described as grim.

At the foot of the fourth incline a deep chasm had to be crossed by means of a viaduct 705 ft. in length, divided into one 45-ft. and ten 66-ft. spans, with the rails, in the centre of the viaduct, 185 ft. above the floor of the valley.

Transrail received the smallest number of class 60 locomotives as its area of operation included the least amount of heavy trains compared to both Mainline and Loadhaul.
Class 60s are seen as the heavy hauler of the EWS fleet and so, are found working the heaviest trains on the network.
They are also to be found covering for Class 66s which, at the time of writing, are heavily involved on the annual Network Rail Rail Head Treatment Train (RHTT) programme combating leaf fall.

Also add in that there has never been an asset register; the condition of signalling and rails was carried in peoples heads and not on paper and as a result Railtrack found to its collective horror that actually it was a heavy engineering company and not a go getting property asset manager.
The rail freight situation in France is probably one of the worst examples of traditional state railways in the EU - high costs, obstructive unions, falling traffic due to poor service at high prices, and hence having to be propped up by the French taxpayer.

Class 37's were once a regular performer on this working until early 2005 when haulage went over to class 67's.
During April and May 2006 DRS hired two of its class 66's out to Freigtliner who were experiencing a motive power shortage.
The service was behind schedule at this stage of its journey and 37608 and 37218 where hammering along the fast line to make up time.
