[2.0] Hunter In British & Foreign Service
The neglect of the Hunter in British service was also partly due to Hawker Siddeley's attempts to advance the case of their vertical take-off or landing (VTOL) fighter effort, in the form of the "P.1127" VTOL demonstrators and the following "Kestrel" evaluation machines.
Most of the trainers in British service were phased out with the introduction of the BAE Hawk trainer in the late 1970s, but both single-seaters and twin-seaters lingered on in small and dwindling numbers as evaluation machines and wotnot through the 1990s.
As British aviation writer Jon Lake put it: "If the Hunter had not existed, the Swiss would have had to invent it." In 1970s, the Swiss decided to obtain a replacement for their de Havilland Venoms in the attack role.

Modern History Sourcebook: Lenin: Imperialism, The Highest Stage of Capitalism, 1916
It is proved in the pamphlet that the war of 1914-18 was imperialistic (that is, an annexationist, predatory, plunderous war) on the part of both sides; it was a war for the division of the world, for the partition and repartition of colonies, "spheres of influence" of finance capital, etc.
Proof of what was the true social, or rather, the true class character of the war is naturally to be found, not in the diplomatic history of the war, but in an analysis of the objective position of the ruling classes in all the belligerent countries.
The principal spheres of investment of British capital are the British colonies, which are very large also in America (for example, Canada) not to mention Asia, etc. In this case, enormous exports of capital are bound up most closely with vast colonies, of the importance of which for imperialism we shall speak later.
