In the later stages of the locomotives introduction British Rail had begun to use the Corporate Blue colour scheme, which would last for nearly 20 years, and the remainder of the fleet were painted accordingly.
In the 70s some of the 86 freight locomotives were fitted with multiple working equipment compatible with the class 87 locomotives, these connections were eventually fitted on many AC locomotive freight fleet.
The remainder of the 86 fleet became the property of Porterbrook leasing and were leased for use by Freightliner.

Class 84 locomotive No. E3044 is displayed at Bury Bolton Street station on the occasion of the cities 'Rail Week' from the 14th to the 19th of the month.
Class 45 locomotive No. 45 071 becomes the first of its class to be modified by the removal of its nose-end headcode panels.
Two Class 87 locomotives, 87 029 Earl Marischal, 87 030 Black Douglas and an unidentified Class 86, become the first machines to be painted with a thin orange stripe at cantrail level, for the purpose of warning staff of overhead live wires whilst working on the upper parts of locomotives.

The British Rail Class 67 locomotives were built from 1999-2000 by Alstom in Valencia, Spain under sub-contract from General Motors Diesel in Canada.
EWS had acquired the parcels business Rail Express Systems in 1996, and inherited a motley collection of elderly Class 47 diesel locomotives and Class 86 electric locomotives, and newer Class 90 electric locomotives, as well as Class 325 parcels EMUs.
EWS Class 67 locomotives are hired by First Scotrail to haul their Caledonian Sleeper services over non-electrified routes; the "Highland Sleeper" services to and from Aberdeen, Inverness and, since early 2006, Fort William.

The Class of 100 locos was built at Vulcan Foundry by English Electric and British Rail at Doncaster.
Flexicoil suspension and SAB resilient wheels was fitted to the first member of the Class in 1969 and as it was a success the rest of the class also had it fitted.
In 1986 the first to members of the class were sadly lost in a crash at Colwich 86429 and 86211 which was the only member of the Class never to carry a version of the Intercity or Mainline livery.

These engines have a maximum speed of 100 mph, and are still useful because the class 91 doesn't travel on the west coast line, although primarily for freight services, but it does get used for the occasional intercity services, although the class 87 and 90 are its main competitors.
Visually its almost indistinguishable from the class 86 however there are differences which are important.
The class 91 looks similar to this engine, however the front is slightly more slanted, and it only slants at one end.

One trailer had a first class section and a pair of lavatories, the other trailer didn’t.
A 127 in top condition was far and away the best type of DMU on the entire British rail system.
I do get nostalgic about the lovely old class 45 Peaks and class 86 AC electric locos; they were a pleasure to drive, but not DMUs, not yet anyway.

The main compromise is in the area of track gauge where a 0.5mm overscale gauge has been accepted as the price of an easy to use scale ratio and an off the shelf track product (being standard 0 gauge track).
That is a small compromise compared to the errors widely accepted in other parts of the hobby like British 00, US 0 scale and G scale.
It can even be argued, maybe a little tenuously, that the 0.5 mm error is within the tolerances of prototype track widening on sharp curves in the steam era of long fixed wheelbases.

The class 50 loco broke down and had to be rescued by a couple of class 31 locos headed by #31 420 to finish its journey to Exeter.
I remember throwing a strop on the return journey, I wanted to wait an extra 1 1/2 hours for class 31 hauled semi fast service, but no we got the earlier DMU that stopped everywhere.
A magnificent and much photographed station, however I couldn't find any with the British Rail sign, which has now obviously has been removed.

I had originally identified this as a class 86, but as Phil Bell pointed out to me, "This is actually a class 81 or 85.
The 86 has a vertical front and a grill over the centre window (see 86204-1).Class 83/84 are ruled out by the position of the lower marker lights with respect to the handrails.
