 Rail Blue - The Story
Some of the smaller classes of locomotives were dealt with surprisingly quickly; in the case of the Class 55 'Deltics' D9002 became the first example outshopped in blue on the 20th October 1966, and D9014 the last, only three years later in November 1969.
D1030 'Western Musketeer', the first of the class to appear in the new blue livery, emerged with red bufferbeams and Swindon staff received a severe repremand from the board and were ordered to amend the livery accordingly.
Class 47 locomotive no. 47 460 appeared on the 3rd of April 1978 with an all over silver roof and red bufferbeams; and just to strike the message home a little harder, the depot applied wooden nameplates bearing the name 'Great Eastern'.

 Class 73
The Class 73 is almost unique on British Railways today in that it is capable of being powered by two different sources - traction current picked up from the third rail and also from its on board diesel generator set (albeit at reduced power).
There was one other electro-diesel type - the class 74 - a later conversion from pure electric locomotive class 71 which was not a success and all have been withdrawn.

British appetite for high speed was first whetted, probably, by the famous "races" to Scotland which took place in 1888 and 1895.
The 1888 race to Edinburgh was precipitated by the fact that the Great Northern, North Eastern, and North British Railways, forming the East Coast route, decided to admit third-class passengers to the "Flying Scotsman," whereas up till then the principal trains by both routes bad been first and second class only.
As a footnote, L.N.E.R. class A4, "Mallard" attained a speed of 126 miles an hour, on the descent from Stoke Summit in 1938, a world record for a steam locomotive, which is held to this day.........

The British Rail Class 04 0-6-0 diesel-mechanical shunting locomotive class, built between 1952 and 1962 and were the basis for the later Class 03 built in the British Railways workshops.
The Class 04 locomotives were supplied by the Drewry Car Co., who at the time (and for most of its existence) had no manufacturing capability.
The class were distributed throughout the British Railways system, but the significant decline in the traffic for which they were designed, resulted in a large surplus of shunting engines on the network.

The 'commuter rail' operations of most other North American transit properties are not meant to serve as many different travel markets as the European 'regional rail' systems; they gear their service towards a single market of middle-to-upper class downtown office workers who drive to a station and ride an express train downtown.

The third rail pickup shoes, for 750 V operations on British soil, are found on each side of every powered truck.
Eurostar is already woefully underpowered when it uses third rail (it has about one quarter of its full power available, in order to limit current pickup to about 750 Amps per shoe) so frequent tripping made it impossible to keep an already slow schedule.
Eurostar's third rail pickup shoes are not linked through a 750 V power cable running the length of the train, so that when a break in contact occurs, the load cannot be taken over by as many other pickups.

 EETimes.com - Op amps increasingly swing rail-to-rail
With the number of low-voltage applications growing steadily, the need becomes even greater for devices that can use their full voltage range on output, input or both.
In addition to minimizing distortion in low-voltage applications by swinging between supply rails, thus creating more signal "head-room," rail-to-rail op amps bring the industry a step closer to universal op amps that can fit multiple applications.
Janjik said the devices have a single input stage and an internal charge pump in a design that eliminates the need for a second input stage and meets the needs of customers that would otherwise require two power supplies.
