British Steel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
British Steel was a large British steel producer, consisting of the assets of former private companies which had been nationalised, largely under the Labour Party government of Harold Wilson (1964-1970).
From the mid-1970s the (loss-making) British Steel pursued a strategy of concentrating steelmaking in five areas: South Wales, South Yorkshire, Scunthorpe, Teeside and Scotland.
British Steel's chairman at one point was Ian MacGregor, who would become famous for his role at British Coal and the UK miners' strike (1984-1985).

Well, the only reason that British Steel was chosen was because that's what was the first tape my 18-month-old grabbed out of a box she knows not to go into.
British Steel could be seen as the first album in Judas Priest's glory days.
But something in my brain tells me that there would be limited draw for this album -- either for aging metalheads like myself (who was testing the eardrums of other drivers with this tape Monday afternoon) or kids getting into metal and looking to rebel against their parents.

JUDAS PRIEST - British Steel - METAL DREAMS REVIEW
British Steel was the follow-up studio album to Hell Bent For Leather (1978), and carried on in the tradition of that album.
My one complaint with all the remastered Priest albums is that the band should have put some effort into writing detailed liner notes.
The Bloody Truth: This is a classic Priest album, as "Breaking The Law" and "Living After Midnight" are staples of 'Heavy Metal 101' and the Priest catalog.

Their debut album, 1974's Rocka Rolla, evidenced their blues roots, but its 1976 followup unleashed the first of a series of albums with innovative guitar harmonies and blazing, signature solo work, which framed the powerful vocal abilities of singer Rob Halford.
British Steel is the name of an iron foundry where Tipton had worked at one time, though Rob and Ian differ in their recollection of who actually penned the name.
British Steel is indeed a classic album, and this disc gives fans an opportunity to look at its production through the eyes of the band itself.

Judas Priest was one of the fastest rising bands in the world by then, thanks to the incessant repetition of the two hits from their previous album British Steel, and a successful (albeit abysmal) live album.
Little by little, each successive JP album was showing more creativity and more restraint, usually without sacrificing the power that drives their style.
This album is one I have been a vigorous defender of for many years, because of how good the really good songs are.

British Steel is a must-have for anyone who is not only a serious metal fan, but also a Judas Priest fan.
Now British Steel itself is not on the most huge forefront of high register's like, "Stained Class" or "Screaming For Vengence", but Rob Halford still crack's a few here and there.
Overall BRITISH STEEL sounds heavy and BIG enoungh to identify that a whole decade of the same sounding music was to come, it was just a matter of time before it all measured out.

British Steel (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
British Steel is a heavy metal album by Judas Priest, released on April 14 1980 (see 1980 in music).
The album was recorded at Tittenhurst Park, which was the home of the Beatle Ringo Starr.
Anthrax guitar player, Scott Ian said in an interview in the documentary Heavy Metal: Louder than Life that British Steel was probably the album that really defined heavy metal, because it, according to him, did away with the "last shards of blues" that had otherwise been characteristic of the genre.

The coolest thing about the "Making of the British Steel" is that K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton meet up with longtime producer Tom Allom at the studio where the album was recorded, an English country house owned by the two ex-Beatles, Ringo Starr and John Lennon.
This album may not be the most "classic" metal album, but it certainly made one of the biggest commercial impacts in heavy metal, and the music industry in general.

British Steel brings that process full circle, offering the band's catchiest, most accessible set of tunes yet, while retaining the precision guitar assault and quasi-operatic vocals that had come to define their sound.
It was the simplest music Priest had yet attempted, but thanks to the (mostly) top-notch songwriting and AC/DC-like willingness to allow the songs' grooves room to breathe, the record is a smashing success overall, with maybe one or two subpar tracks.

This installment of the Classic Albums series, in which rock stars talk about the creation of their albums, focuses on the making of British Steel, the 1980 album by Judas Priest, a working-class British, heavy-metal band led by screechy lead singer Rob Halford.
As Halford (who has since left the band) and his mates explain what went into the lyrics and recording of the songs that made up the record, the talking heads are intercut with performance footage of a band that helped launch the metal and speed-metal surge of the 1980s and early 1990s.
Featuring archive footage, interviews and rare live performances, plus all of BRITISH STEEL'S finest songs, including "Living After Midnight", "Breaking the Law", "Metal Gods", "The Rage", "United" and "Grinder", this is a compelling, witty and exhilarating look at the making of one of heavy metal's most artful creations, a true Classic Album.

After finding a metal-savvy producer in Pete Hinton, Saxon recovered from their disappointing debut in fine form with 1980's career-defining Wheels of Steel, whose songs displayed a bright metal sheen and set the template for the band's most successful albums.
One of the greatest New Wave of British Heavy Metal standards, pounding opener "Motorcycle Man" introduces the album's biker obsession from the get-go -- a recurring theme that is revisited on the frenetic "Freeway Mad," the title track, and on most of the group's subsequent albums.
At nearly eight minutes, the title track is another classic that would become a nightly encore for the rest of Saxon's career.

Heavy-metal monsters rarely die but eventually collapse under the accumulated weight of their own leaden riffing, Tarzan-like singing and boorish macho arrogance.
Three new albums by Kiss, Humble Pie and Judas Priest merely represent different ways of trying to avoid the inevitable.
Once the clown princes of glitter rock, Kiss started cooling their riotous act on vinyl last year with Dynasty, openly courting AOR radio with the disco-inflected "I Was Made for Lovin' You." Melissa Manchester's ex-producer, Vini Poncia, provided the proper sanded-down sound.
