The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) is the premier 'saloon' car racing series in the UK.
From '58 through 1991, the championship consisted of numerous classes, separating the entrants based on the type of car that they were driving.
The current cars are very similar to those found on the road, and the limited development work allowed on the cars means that close, exciting, and controversial racing is guaranteed throughout the season.

British Touring Car Championship - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The British Touring Car Championship is a series of races for saloon cars which is held each year in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Currently, the cars used are 2.0 L saloons, based on models from a variety of manufacturers, using both "BTC Touring" and Super 2000 regulations (the technical regulations used in the World Touring Car Championship).
Cars built to the different regulations are made as equal as possible by the use of weight equivalency formulae.
