Adjudication British Waterways Board (July 2001) Crt of Session
Adjudication had been commenced which British Waterways considered was in disregard to the terms of the procedure in Clause 90.
British Waterways argued that the contractors were acting in disregard of the contract, namely Clause 90 as inserted into the contract by Addendum Y (UK) 2.
The third argument by British Waterways Board was that if the adjudication were to go ahead at that stage it would be necessary for the parties to go to the expense of arguing the "dispute" and presenting the arguments of parties to the adjudicator.

The Chief Executive informed the Board that, despite reports to the contrary in the media, it was the Countryside Agency's role to decide on whether to designate as a national park or not.

British Waterways Board: A report on the service provided by the Board
BWB has some profitable activities (in the sense of covering direct costs and making a contribution to overheads) such as boat licensing, the provision of moorings, supplying water, letting properties and developing sites, but the network as a whole is not commercially viable.
We have also recommended that BWB should retain a sufficient dredging capacity to enable a fast response to emergencies such as a blocked waterway but that all planned dredging operations in all regions should be contracted out with effect from 1 October 1994, unless such contracts are shown to be less cost-effective than in-house operation.
BWB argued that because of the savings from the substantial improvement in organizational efficiency, the main reason for establishing its headquarters at Willow Grange, it was fair to conclude that the project had been a considerable success.

After the Northern Lighthouse Board declined to accept the lighthouse, it was operated by the local navigation authority from 1795 to 1867 and then by a private landowner from 1894 to 1933.

British Waterways Board: government observations on the fourth report of the Select Committee on Nationalised Industries
The Select Committee were severly critical of the Government's handling of the affairs of the British Waterways Board in their fourth report, and on the proposals for the future of the Board and the White Paper on the Water Industry of July 1977.
The report looks at financing the waterways (the maintenance backlog, and future financing), the commercial role of the waterways (freight transport), and the equal competition with other forms of transport.
In its summary the Government, while sharing fully the Committee's view that it is essential that the waterways undertaking should be placed on a firm long-term financial and organisational basis, does not accept the Committee's analysis of the situation or their recommendations for future actio.
