 About Facts Net
The British maintained strong pressure on their front throughout the year; but British attacks on the Messines Ridge (7 June), at Ypres (31 July), and at Cambrai (20 November) failed in their main objective—the capture of German submarine bases—and took a severe toll of British fighting strength.
The American III Corps (28th and 77th Divisions) was a part of the French Sixth Army east of Soissons, which held in late August the western part of the Vesle River sector extending from Braine to Courlandon.

Somme : Texts : Personal Accounts : Somme Offensive
Northward, again, the X Corps (32nd and 36th Divisions) penetrated some distance into the German lines, portions of the 36th Ulster Division even to Grandcourt, but the supports could not get forward, the advanced parties were cut off, and at nightfall only small fractions of the German front trenches near Thièpval remained in British hands.
It reveals that in the north the X Corps made a deep penetration, although the Ulstermen were forced to relinquish the ground later because of the repulse of the troops on their flanks.
The French XX Corps next to it was, as a corollary, also constrained to inactivity, but south of the Somme the French captured the German second line and the high ground overlooking Péronne.

Overall, I found Ghost Corps (which until this time I had only heard of the 10th AD being referred to the Ghost Division, and no such nickname bestowed on XX Corps) account to be disjointed, inaccurate, and a very poor attempt to document the gallant efforts of XX Corps.
The second reason Prefer wrote "Patton's Ghost Corps" was to honor the men of the XX Corps, especially the 94th Infantry Division and the many other units which took part in the engagement.* Lieutenant Colonel Keith E. Bonn, in his foreword to the book, makes this point for the author.
The story of the XX Corps in these campaigns is really the story of the 94th Infantry Division which attacked and fought off counterattacks by veteran German units until, assisted by the 10th Armored Division, they captured Trier, a key city to Germany's defenses.
