Admiralty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Admiralty was the authority in the United Kingdom responsible for the command of the Royal Navy.
In 1964 the functions of the Admiralty were transferred to a new Admiralty Board, which is a committee of the tri-service Defence Council of the United Kingdom and part of the Ministry of Defence.

British ensigns - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In British maritime law and custom, the ensign proper to a British ship is one of several flags with a red, white or blue field, with the Union Flag in the canton (the upper corner next the staff), known as the red, blue and white ensigns respectively.
British government departments use a variety of blue ensigns defaced in the fly with the department badge, and colonial governments use blue ensigns defaced with the colonial badge.
In 1868, the British Admiralty made the Canadian Blue Ensign the proper flag for ships of the Canadian government, and in 1892, the Admiralty approved the use of the Canadian Red Ensign by Canadian merchant ships.

LII: Law about ...Admiralty   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Admiralty law or maritime law is the distinct body of law (both substantive and procedural) governing navigation and shipping.
Admiralty law in the United States developed from the British admiralty courts present in most of the American colonies.
Since admiralty courts, however, are courts of limited jurisdiction (which does not extend to nonmaritime matters), 28 USC § 1333(1), the "Savings to Suitors Clause," does provide for concurrent state jurisdiction so that non-admiralty remedies will not be foreclosed.

First World War.com - Primary Documents - British Admiralty Statement on the Ostend Raid, 11 May 1918
Reproduced below is the text of the official British Admiralty report on the Royal Navy's 9 May 1918 raid upon the German-held port of Ostend, a follow-up action to the previous month's raid upon Zeebrugge and Ostend - both used as a base for submarines and light shipping.
The initial raid was originally proposed by British First Sea Lord, Sir John Jellicoe, and formulated by Dover port commander Sir Roger Keyes, after Jellicoe stated to the British cabinet his view that Britain's continuing ability to wage war depended upon blocking the exits from both ports, and thus denying German submarines convenient bases.
A coastal motor-boat had visited her and hung a flare in her slack and rusty rigging; and that eye of unsteady fire, paling in the blaze of the star-shells or reddening through the drift of the smoke, watched the whole great enterprise, from the moment when it hung in doubt to its ultimate triumphant success.

Part II: The List of British Admiralty Draughts
The British admiralty draught of Perlen shows conventional quarter galleries and a narrow tier of stern galleries, in place of the pair of stern gunports and odd-looking stern structure and decoration Hohlenberg depicts in his design plans of all his frigates and of the Christian den Syvende.
British records also indicate that, as ballasted and stored with victuals by the British, the freeboard of Venus's main battery gunports was 7 feet, 4 inches, which was very good in comparison to other Danish frigates of the day, and second only to the main battery gunport freeboard of Hohlenberg's Perlen.
Regarding Frederickssteen's British main battery of cannon, however, it must be noted that the British armament figures for Frederikssteen are the official British admiralty establishment figures, and it's quite possible that Frederickssteen's British captain chose to arm her main battery with carronades rather than cannon.

First World War.com - Primary Documents - British Admiralty Statement on the Zeebrugge Raid, 22-23 April 1918
Reproduced below is the text of the official British Admiralty report on the Royal Navy raid upon the German-held ports of Zeebrugge and Ostend - both used as a base for submarines and light shipping - on the night of 22-23 April 1918.
The raid was originally proposed by British First Sea Lord, Sir John Jellicoe, and formulated by Dover port commander Sir Roger Keyes, after Jellicoe stated to the British cabinet his view that Britain's continuing ability to wage war depended upon blocking the exits from both ports, and thus denying German submarines convenient bases.
Represented at the time as a tremendous British victory by Allied propaganda (with the consequence that Keyes was ennobled), and by the Germans as a demonstration of their success in holding each port, the Zeebrugge raid did not in reality hinder German operations from either port for more than a few days.

The motivations for the growth and posturing of the British Navy prior to WWI had less to do with fear of Germany -although using that fear was an effective tool- than with a naval revolution by the Admiralty's First Lord, Sir John Fisher.
