	Broad Ripple - Narrative History
		Broad Ripple Park also underwent extensive renovation in the mid 1980s with a new swimming pool and playground equipment; a new branch library opened in 1986, as did a branch office of the Indianapolis Police Department.
		Because Broad Ripple persevered during the early years of the 20th century, it acquired a unique identity as a “community within a community.” During the 1960s, it appeared that Broad Ripple might go the way of many small towns and be swallowed by an urban entity.
		For purposes of this study Broad Ripple is defined as that which is bordered by Meridian Street to the west, Keystone Avenue to the east, 56th Street/ Kessler Boulevard on the south, and White River on the north.

	Broad Ripple Lodge • History
		On January 1st, 1902, a group of Master Masons with membership in neighboring lodges met in the old Broad Ripple schoolhouse north of Indianapolis to consider their desire for a lodge in Broad Ripple, where they could meet with greater convenience and participate in neighborly associations.
		At that time, Broad Ripple was a flourishing little town popular with Indianapolis residents because of the nearby amusement park White City (located in what is now Broad Ripple Park), its good fishing and rural attractions.
		The area residents still refer to it as the Masonic Lodge, and the building continues to occupy a prominent place in the center of Broad Ripple, acting as a constant reminder of the historic presence of Freemasonry in the community.
