Broad Street station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Broad Street station was a major railway station in the City of London, which served as the terminus for the North London Railway.
Broad Street station was replaced with the giant Broadgate office and shopping complex.
In June 1985, it was agreed that Broad Street would be closed and in November that year demolition of the station began.

 Philadelphia: SEPTA Broad Street Subway
All stations from Walnut-Locust to Snyder have been additionally rehabilitated, with new signage and floor tile, and are aligned under the east side of Broad Street.
However, the station's design conceals that fact, as there are four large "glass house" surface entrances (the cashier's window and turnstiles are at street level, with the stairs leading directly to the platform), and the platform is much wider than any other island platform, as well as roughly twice as long.
Outside of the paid area, there is a long underground walkway running from Chestnut Street to Spruce Street, known as the South Broad (Street) concourse; this has many exits and entrances to/from both sides of Broad Street, some of which are in the side walls of buildings.

 Railways of Ottawa
The station is shown as an L-shape, slightly angled to Broad Street at the west end of Ottawa Street, and with a width across the platforms of about 80 feet.
Broad Street was designed by a celebrated Montreal architect, Edward Maxwell the elder of the two brothers who constituted the firm of E and WS Maxwell.
In the centre are the buildings on the west side of Broad Street between Ottawa and Queen Streets.

 30th Street Station
It was built in 1934 by the former Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), which was headquartered in Philadelphia, to replace Broad Street Station when the latter became too small to handle Philadelphia's growing passenger-rail traffic.
The PRR sought a location away from Center City Philadelphia, where Broad Station was located, which would allow room for a larger yard as well as multiple tracks and platforms.
In addition, SEPTA's Market-Frankford subway line (also known as the "Blue Line" or the "El") stops at 30th Street Station -- although there is no longer direct access from the subway station to the rail station due to crime and vagrancy concerns.

Cedar Street Subway, which had been used to access the Newark Public Service Terminal from Washington Street, was pushed through to a junction with the subway between Broad Street and Penn Station.
New stations were opened at Silver Lake and Grove Street, and the Heller Parkway and Franklin Avenue stations were combined into a new Branch Brook Park station.
The fare is $1.10, and a discount 50¢ downtown fare is applicable from Penn Station to the Warren Street Station during off peak hours.

 Broad Street - Dalston BR
The layout of the station is clear here, with two lines passing on the left of the island platform and two passing on the right, with an additional platform for the far right track. The far left track didn't have had a platform at all.
The site of the disused Dalston Junction station (again, due to reopened) is just beyond the barely visible second bridge further up the line (not to be confused with the existing Dalston Kingsland station on the North London line).
The station building of Dalston Junction has been demolished - this was all that remained of any of the frontage in July 2001 although this has now been cleared for the rebuilding of the station for the East London Line extension.

PHMC TO UNVEIL HISTORICAL MARKER FOR PHILADELPHIA'S BROAD STREET
Broad Street Station was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1881 and enlarged in 1893 to be the world's largest railroad passenger terminal.

 The PENNSYLVANIA Pages... Suburban Station
Through passenger traffic would be accommodated by a new Pennsylvania Station at 30th and Market Streets; commuter traffic would be handled jointly by the 30th Street Station and a new combination office building and station structure to be built one block northwest of Broad Street Station.
The core improvements were replacing the railroad’s stations located at 32nd and Market Streets in West Philadelphia, and the Broad Street Station, located at 15th and Market Streets, adjacent to City Hall in the heart of the city.
The recovered space along Market Street was developed into Penn Center Plaza in the mid-1950’s with one of the first buildings, Six Penn Center, built by the railroad itself at 17th Street.

Train station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A train station, or railroad station (American English), or railway station (British English), is a point of call for trains, allowing the loading or unloading of goods, or allowing passengers to board and alight.
Train stations colocated with other transport systems such as trams and buses may also be referred to as interchanges, as may stations offering both metro/subway and heavy rail services.
A train station that is jointly used by several rail transport companies is sometimes called a union station, or an interchange station.

The Market Street Subway is still using the loop around City Hall but a station is added on the north and sound ends of the loop in order to facilitate transfers with the Broad Street Subway.
Ironic that the new station on the northern end is similar to the relocated 15th street west bound trolley station that was built to allow easier transfers with the Broad Street subway.

 Main Street Station
By the mid-20th century, however, area floods, the demise of the Shockoe Bottom district, the increasing popularity of air and auto travel, and the presence of the much-larger Broad Street Station (now the Science Museum of Virginia) led to the station’s demise.
• Now that the city’s floodwall protects Shockoe Bottom and the area is thriving once again, with the prospects of multimodal transportation in Richmond’s future, the City has renovated Main Street Station.
This demise was further compounded by the flood associated with Hurricane Agnes in 1972, when the waters of the nearby James River flooded the station’s first floor.

 Philly NRHS - PRR History
For many years, Broad Street Station, built in the 1880's and razed in the 1950's, was the main Center City terminal and housed the offices of the railroad.
The main passenger stations in the Philadelphia area were Pennsylvania Station (30th Street Station), Broad Street Station (later replaced by Suburban Station) and North Philadelphia Station.
Since its creation in the 1930's, Penn Station (30th Street Station), located in West Philadelphia just across the Schuykill River from Center City, was a station for both commuter and north-south inter-city travel.

Industrial Hamilton -- A Trail to the Future - Railway Subsidiaries
Use of the station was spread among the four interurbans as well as the Hamilton Street Railway (which looked after car storage and maintenance) and the Hamilton Terminal Company itself.
The four storey Terminal Station was located at King Street and Catherine Street Its first floor was an interurban waiting room and the top three floors made up D.P.andT.'s head office.
The train ran on public streets and therefore "steam dummies" (small locomotives encased in a body similar to a street car) were required so that townspeople and horses would not be frightened.
