Broadfield House used to be, I am told, a hunting lodge for the Tilgate Forest Estates.
Broadfield Park stands out for its water and the strange atmosphere of its rundown ornamental garden and oddly shaped lawn (old tennis court perhaps?), but also as the only one of the three not earmarked for large-scale development of a civic facility.
This is a part of Crawley, actually a part of Broadfield, which often gets forgotten as its a little scrap of land separated from the rest of town by the A264.

I know that the parade, unlike the others in Crawley, is not owned and run by the council but by a management company on behalf of the shops, but even so it is a fine metaphor for the town under its new Tory administration.
When I got back to Broadfield there were three police cars parked by the Tollgate Hill roundabout on the A264, another couple parked at the top of Tollgate Hill, a riot van touring the area (according to Jayne) and a police helicopter circling the area shining its searchlight down.
Crawley Borough Council have a public notice on the same page about public consultation relating to that area and whether it should go into the local development framework - probably forced on them by the representations from Wimpey and Beazer.

When I was visiting all the different areas of Broadfield during the campaign I made three promises that I was asked about by residents and I felt could be achievable, these where 1) Tougher (and swifter) action on Travellers 2) A post office in Broadfield 3) A cleaner more attractive Barton.
My second promise is the return of the Broadfield post office, it was an intensive campaign and to get the Post office open so soon is a great achievement, however I must state now that many people where involved in this campaign along with myself and should all be applauded.
