The Broadmeadows railway line is a suburban railway in Melbourne, Australia.
It is the scence of the infamous runaway Broadmeadows train incident of 2003 in which an unmanned train rolled the entire length of the track, crashing into Spencer Street Station.
The Craigieburn greater metropolitan line is a continuation of the Broadmeadows line.

The railway line from Spencer Street to Essendon was constructed by 1860.
As was quite common at this stage of railway development in the colony the line was constructed and owned by a private syndicate.
Electrification of the line from Flinders St. to Essendon occurred in 1919 with the rest of the line to Broadmeadows being electrified in 1921.

Originally constructed by the Melbourne and Essendon Railway Company, the line was opened to Essendon on the 1st November 1860.
The line was sold to the government for $45,000 in 1867, at that stage it was in a serious state of disrepair beyond Newmarket.
The Flemington Racecourse line was re-opened in time for the 1867 Melbourne Cup and after 7 years, in 1871, the line was finally re-opened to Essendon.

Melbourne Tullamarine is a reasonable airport on most fronts but does suffer in luggage delays, ineffecient immigration processes and poor design of pedestrian walk ways from the short term car park.
Departure form Melbourne was an absolute nightmare with a snake line trailing from the immigration counters out to the entry doors.
Melbourne airport has slipped in it's standards recently and is becoming more and more user and visitor unfriendly to the point where I think that the airport has lost touch with the fact that most air travellers today are not from the upper class or funded to excess by their employers.

For me the best line would be one that has: a sense of history, waiting rooms and clean toilets (that are on every station and open), interesting views (industrial and environment) and construction (bridges, tunnels, cuttings), and trains that are comfortable, reliable, regular, and on time.
I would have expected the Belgrave line to be more popular considering the view along the railway line is excellent, I suppose you must also consider the route "Ringwood to Ferntree Gully" which rowdy teenagers have caused chaos to.
The Werribee line as being mentioned in posts to be a strongly favoured railway line, the votes are low.
