  Silver Brocade
Metallic brocade on silk bands was the height of ostentatious display for much of the period covered by the SCA (Spies 2000).
Most of these bands were plain, with the pattern created solely by the brocading weft, but a few especially complex examples used a brocading weft to augment a pattern woven into the band in two or more colors.
Metallic brocades almost always use silk as the warp, although some bands from Birka use silk where it will show in the finished product, and cheaper linen warp where it will be hidden by the brocading weft.

 Brocaded Tablet Weaving
If your brocade thread breaks during the weaving process (or if you need to start a new piece), undo your weaving until you have enough to anchor the new brocade weft and still be able to lock in the old piece; again with a pass or two alongside the ground weft.
That is, the brocade thread lies over the entire surface of the band and the pattern is created by the spots where the warp thread is holding the brocade in place.
The brocade weft is passed over the tablets where it is to be visible on the top, then a space is created between that tablet and the adjacent one, and the brocade shuttle is passed to the back.

BROCADE, the name usually given to a class of richly decorative shuttle-woven fabrics, often made in coloured silks and with or without gold and silver threads.
Ornamental features in brocade are emphasized and wrought as additions to the main fabric, sometimes stiffening it, though more frequently producing on its face the effect of low relief.
On the other hand, although they are described usually as brocades, certain specimens of imperial Chinese robes sumptuous in ornament, sheen of coloured silks and the glisten of golden threads, are woven in the tapestry-weaving manner and without any floating threads.
