 Brocaded Tablet Weaving
The brocade weft is passed over the tablets where it is to be visible on the top, then a space is created between that tablet and the adjacent one, and the brocade shuttle is passed to the back.
If your brocade thread breaks during the weaving process (or if you need to start a new piece), undo your weaving until you have enough to anchor the new brocade weft and still be able to lock in the old piece; again with a pass or two alongside the ground weft.
After counting over the number of tablets where the brocade is to appear on the back, the shuttle is brought back to the top.

 Silver Brocade
It was very common to find the metallic weft brocaded over the firm ground created by tablet weaving.
Metallic brocade on silk bands was the height of ostentatious display for much of the period covered by the SCA (Spies 2000).
Metallic brocades almost always use silk as the warp, although some bands from Birka use silk where it will show in the finished product, and cheaper linen warp where it will be hidden by the brocading weft.
