Battle of Clontarf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sigurd and Brodir both planned on killing the other after the battle to take the seat of High King for themselves, while Sigtrygg was busy trying to form alliances with everyone involved in an attempt to at least retain his own seat in Dublin.
On the left, Brodir himself led the charge and gained ground, until he met the warrior Wolf the Quarrelsome, brother of King Brian.
Although Wolf was unable to break Brodir's armor, he knocked him to the ground and Brodir fled to hide.

Brodir fled ignominiously and hid in a wood from the Irish warrior Wolf the Quarrelsome.
Brodir, who was still hiding in the woods, saw Brian Boru just beyond the treeline, and ambushed the High King.
Brodir cut down the Boru, saying "Now let man tell man that Brodir felled Brian!" Brodir's victory was short-lived as he and his men were taken by Wolf the Quarrelsome, and Brodir was sentenced to die a coward's death (being tied to a tree with his own intestines).

 The Battle of Clontarf
Brodir’s men anchored their flank on the banks of Dublin Bay, where the longboats lay beached.
Brodir’s men, still a threat even with their leader hiding in the woods, were attacked by the omnipresent Murchad, who led his personal bodyguard of 140 “king’s sons” along the line of battle, bolstering morale and valour by his presence in the Irish ranks.
It seems Brodir, hiding in the woods, saw Brian just outside, lightly guarded while most of his men were off in furious pursuit of the fugitives.

Brodir tried by sorcery how the fight would go, but the answer ran thus, that if the fight were on Good-Friday King Brian would fall but win the day; but if they fought before, they would all fall who were against him.
Wolf the Quarrelsome turned then to meet him, and thrust at him thrice so hard that Brodir fell before him at each thrust, and was well-nigh not getting on his feet again; but as soon as ever he found his feet, he fled away into the wood at once.
Then Brodir called out with a loud voice, "Now let man tell man that Brodir felled Brian." Then men ran after those who were chasing the fleers, and they were told that King Brian had fallen, and then they turned back straightway, both Wolf the Quarrelsome and Kerthialfad.

Maelmordha and Sigtrygg Silkybeard had amassed support from two powerful allies: Earl Sigurd Hlodvisson of Orkney and Brodir (or Brodar depending on your source) of Man. With the their forces encamped approximately 2 miles inland from Dublin Bay, the lines were drawn up against Brian Boru's 20,000 men.
As all was looking dark for the Vikings, Earl Sigurd Hlodvisson and Brodir were able to rally their men for another attack to Murchadh's Munster Men; however, by the time the troops were rallied, Murchadh had surrounded the left flank.
Through all the chaos, Brodir (who was hiding in the woods) was able to break through the line when King Brian's line thinned in pursuit of King Sigtrygg's troops and penetrate the command tent of Boru.

The protagonist, the taciturn, club-footed loner Lusifer, bears the rather grandiose given name of Hinrik Vilhjailmur Rikhardur Karl, but he faces a rather bleak future, if any future at all.
