Brokenbeat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brokenbeat is an electronic music genre first appearing at the beginning of the 21st century.
As a result of these various influences, brokenbeat is sometimes considered more sophisticated than regular dance music, on the scale of jazz, soul or funk.
In Europe, many musicians that are considered doing brokenbeats have their roots in late-nineties downtempo and electronic jazz (or nu-jazz), which makes it difficult to distinguish the usually harder brokenbeat sound.

Brokenbeat is a relatively new style of music that appeared in the late '90's.
Brokenbeat became a meeting point for all of these musical ideas, taking the syncopations of Drum & Bass, the bumpin'ness of House and the boom bap of Hip-Hop.
In fact in the early days of this music before the Brokenbeat tag took hold, it was conversely known as "House Not House" referring to it's House tempos and influence and it's syncopated, swinging rhythms as opposed to House's straight 4/4 beats.
