		Akan is the lingua franca throughout the region.

		The regional Director of Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), Mr Amin B.K. Nuhu, who led the Committee on the tour, said the contractors were aware of a penalty to be paid when their contract was not completed on schedule.
		Emmanuel Zumakpeh, Ranking Member and other members were on a five-day visit to the Brong Ahafo, Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions to assess works on the roads and how funds for the projects were being utilised.
		Zumakpeh said Brong Ahafo was a major food producing area and there was the need for the contractors to show urgency in their execution of the projects.

		Sunyani, Sept 23, GNA - The Omanhene of the Acherensua Traditional Area, Agyewodin Adu Gyamfi Ampem, has suggested the re-naming of the Brong Ahafo Region to avoid the divisive tendencies that militate against its progress and development.
		He said the name of the region suggests that it is made up of only Brongs and Ahafos, and this was encouraging the growth of factionalism, as there are other ethnic groups.
		Agyewodin Ampem was speaking at a symposium at Sunyani on Wednesday as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the creation of the Brong Ahafo region.

		Sunyani, Ghana -- The Brong Ahafo Region last year recorded 246 bushfire cases as against 211 cases the previous year, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Alex M. Hughes, the Regional Fire Officer said on Tuesday in Sunyani.
		He told the GNA that the Sunyani Municipality recorded 69 cases, the highest in the region whilst Jaman South district recorded two cases, being the lowest.
		The Regional Fire Officer expressed regret about the alarming rate at which the vegetation in the region had been destroyed by people who had refused to adhere to the ban on setting fire to bush during the dry season.

	Mining companies must respect human rights
		The Wassa Association of Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM) has appealed for public support to halt the filtering of faecal matter and sludge by the activities of Newmont Ghana, a mining company, into River Asuopre in the environs of Kenyase in the Brong Ahafo Region.
		He raised other concerns of the community of the Newmont Ahafo Mine as payment of low compensation to affected farmers saying; "Newmont paid less than 70 cedis for a cocoa tree that can yield about half a bag of cocoa beans per year and can last for about 40 years."
		He said Newmont had constructed a dam on River Subiri, which posed danger to some communities adding that two people drowned in the dam last October.

	CBCA: Original Field Guide
		The published paper CBCA Field Guide (Wagaarachchi et al., 2001) was based on an international collaborative research project, involving partners in Scotland, Ghana and Jamaica.
		A criterion-based audit cycle to improve the quality of emergency obstetric care was set up and implemented in four district hospitals: Gaoso Hospital and Holy Family Hospital, Berekum, both in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana, and St Ann's Bay Hospital and Spanish Town Hospital in Jamaica.
