The genus Brookesia is endemic to Madagascar with the majority of the species being found in the northern primary rainforests.
Brookesia are humidity-loving chameleons and their cage should be misted regularly to maintain high humidity, live plants will also help to keep the humidity high.
Brookesia lay small clutches of large (compared to the parent) eggs, clutch size usually varies from 1-6 eggs depending on the size and species of the female.

Brookesia are very small chameleons growing from 1.25 - 3 inches total length.
Sometimes referred to as Stump-tailed chameleons because of the little amount that they use their tail as well as the tail size.
Bradypodion species are more closely related to that of Chameleo than Brookesia or Rhampholeon.

Chameleons range in size from tiny Brookesia (2.5 cm) to some very large Chamaeleo species (up to 68 cm total length).
Sexual dimorphism in the dwarf chameleons (Brookesia in Madagascar, Rhampholeon in Africa) tends to run in the opposite direction, with females being the larger sex.
Within Chamaeleonidae, two hypotheses of relationship include Brookesia sister to the remaining chameleons, and Brookesia + Rhampholeon sister to the remaining taxa.

There are 80-85 living species of chameleons, all but four of which live in Africa (south of the Sahara) or Madagascar.
Chameleons are divided into two general groups: 'normal' chameleons (Chamaeleo, Bradypodion, Calumma and Furcifer) and 'dwarf' chameleons (Brookesia and Rhampholeon).

I would also like to say that if you wish to keep these two species please keep them seperate esspecially the decaryi because they are not bring bred in captivity and well they are to awsome for someone to mess and some potential specimens for breeding this species.
Plus they come from 2 different parts of the world and brookesia like there climate to be a bit dryier than dart frogs in captivity.

It is a hard-cover, 255 page book, stuffed full with colour photographs of every species of Rhampholeon and Brookesia.
It also has information on their care, breeding, feeding habits, as well as their habitat in the wild.

Glaw and Vences (1994) note that about 50 percent of all known chameleon species in the world (57 of 131) occur in Madagascar, including the largest species, Furcifer oustaleti (TL -685mm) and the smallest, Brookesia minima (TL -34mm).
The subfamily Brookesiinae includes the ground and dwarf chameleons in the genus Brookesia.

I know they are listed on CITES, but if anyone knows anyone who breeds Brookesia Peramata...
or even Brookesia Stumpfi (not protected)- I have been dieing to work with them.
I have successfully bred R. Kerstenii and R. Brevicaudatus in captivity and would love to try to emulate the armored pygmy’s climate.

 Brookesia Species List
As new discoveries are made, new species are added or sometimes a species is found to be the same as another previously described species and is then synonymised with that species.
This happened with Brookesia betsileana Ahl which was later found to be identical to Brookesia nasus nasus Boulenger.
The present list may already be out of date.
