Brooklyn College's School of Education has begun to base evaluations of aspiring teachers in part on their commitment to social justice, raising fears that the college is screening students for their political views.
Brooklyn College, established in 1930, is a four-year school within the City University of New York.
Brooklyn College's School of Education, which is the only academic unit at the college with the status of school, is among dozens of education schools across the country that incorporate the notion of "social justice" in their guiding principles.

 BROOKLYN COLLEGE
The specific group we were focusing on has their nests located on a tall lamp pole and on a short lamp pole nearest to the Field Library on the athletic field of Brooklyn College.
Each member of the group was assigned a particular time of the day to come on to the Brooklyn College athletic field to observe the parakeets for a range of time: Gennie and Jean-Robert for morning and noon; Aly and Janette for afternoon and evening.
This type of behavior was also observed on the tall pole at the Brooklyn College Athletic Field and probably explains why many birds were not seen in the middle of the day on the tall pole.

 FIRE - Victory for Academic Freedom at Brooklyn College
BROOKLYN, N.Y., November 23, 2004—The City University of New York’s Brooklyn College has reversed a decision that effectively disbanded the student government to prevent it from voting for a resolution including an academic bill of rights.
Attempts to pass similar policies have been controversial at other colleges and universities across the country, and FIRE received reports that students were told that the decision to nullify the officer elections and actions of the Student Assembly was made specifically to prevent the passage of the resolution.
The college nullified the assembly’s leadership elections, justifying its actions by claiming that the Student Assembly had followed improper procedures in electing its speaker and leadership.

On Thursday, November 18, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz met with seventeen student government leaders from ten of Brooklyn’s private and public colleges and universities to discuss Brooklyn’s future and hear the concerns of student constituents.
