BROOMSTICK LOOPS are formed over a dowel or thick knitting needle, of a diameter somewhere between 1/2" and 1 ", and a length sufficient to hold all stitches.
Hairpin Lace is made on a hairpin fork (sometimes called a staple), which comes in various sizes, along with a crochet hook.

I didn't find the thing for the broomstick lace, and I'm reasonably sure that I have one, because I seem to recall making something or other using that technique.
And, speaking of Google, I had a note from someone who had found my journal by googling "buckmoth caterpillars." I've gotten several notes about Neolithic and Paleolithic societies, but that's not too surprising since the Women's History site has a bunch about both.
