Ridge was in Washington, D.C., on March 10 to ask Pennsylvania’s Congressional Delegation to help enact legislation allowing states to limit out-of-state trash.
He also announced that the amount of out-of-state waste disposed at Pennsylvania municipal waste facilities in 1998 was 9.8 million tons, up from nearly 8.7 million tons in 1997 – an increase of 1.1 million tons, or 12.8 percent.
Pennsylvania recently led an eight-state cooperative effort to crack down on unsafe waste haulers.
