		One of Hollywood’s finest and most famous eateries, the Brown Derby on Vine St., was opened on Valentine’s Day, 1929 in a building erected by Cecil B. deMille.
		With a collection of caricatures of movie stars hanging on the walls and excellent cuisine, the Derby became immensely popular with both motion picture personalities and the general public.
		The Derby continued as one of Hollywood's finest restaurants, closing its doors in the early 80s after a half a century of service.

		The Brown Derby was a landmark restaurant in Los Angeles, which was frequented by celebrities during the Golden Age of Hollywood.
		It was an example of novelty architecture, known for being physically shaped like a brown derby hat, for being the birthplace of the Cobb salad (which was named for the Cobbs, the owners of the Derby), and the home of hundreds of caricatures of celebrities.
		There is a re-created Hollywood Brown Derby at the Disney-MGM Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

		There is a nice shot of the Brown Derby after its one block move, in the movie "The Stand In" released in 1937 (a pleasant movie with Humphrey Bogart - it also has a shot of the Ambassador and mentions the Beverly-Wilshire, the Trocadero Cafe, the Victor Hugo and Cafe La Maze).
		Through out the 1930s, the Brown Derby was the center of a labor dispute with a waiter’s strike and later the Teamsters and Screen Actor’s Guild boycotting the Brown Derby with actors manning the picket line.
		In 1951 Robert Kreis was the supervising chef at all of the Brown Derbies.
