The 9mm Luger was a "shouldered case" meaning that it had a larger case body which was "necked down" or reduced in diameter at the front to accept a 9mm bullet.
The 9mm Parabellum is a shorter case and is not necked or tapered, it's like a short little pipe.
A 9mm luger is a 9mm parabellum and vice versa.
