 DELTA GREEN 1939-1945 : EQUIPMENT : HANDGUNS : FN Browning Hi-Power Pistol
Several of the Belgians that had designed the Browning HP escaped to Canada in 1940, where they made the pistol as the Inglis HP No1 Mk1, which proved popular with British paratroops and commandoes and was exported to Nationalist Chinese and Greek forces.
The pre-war Browning HP were made to take a detachable stock, which allows the pistol to be used like a light carbine (using Rifle skill).
The Browning HP was first adopted by the Belgian armed forces in 1935, and then exported to China, Estonia, Lithuania, and Peru.

 Firearms
Over the years Browning (as FN is now called) made a number of small changes to the HP, but it wasn't until the 1980's that they made some substantial improvements; the Mk 3 guns.
The concept of the HP came from the mind of the legendary John Moses Browning.
While John Moses Browning developed many landmark firearms in the United States (Winchester lever-action rifles, Colt auto-loading pistols, and Browning System machine guns, among others) a number of his designs were sold to the Belgian firm Fabrique Nationale, located in Herstal, Belgium.

Vis (weapon) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Unlike M1911, the barrel was not cammed by a link, but by a ledge of sorts, which contacts a portion of the barrel and forces it down as it is moved rear with the slide by the recoil force, in a similar way, as in Browning's new FN HP pistol.
The design was generally based on John Browning's Colt M1911A1, operating on the short-recoil principle, with the barrel being cammed down and away from the locking lugs in the slide.
Considered by many to be one of the finest handguns ever produced, it is highly prized among collectors of firearms.

Browning HP 35-History of the pistol
Browning HP 35 is still in production and there are five models that are still available.
John Moses Browning (1855-1926) (pictured with his famous semiautomatic shotgun Auto-5) was the greatest inventor in the history of firearms.
In that time (beginning of the 20 century) Browning's pistols were made in Belgium by the famous Belgium firm FN (Fabrique National) because Colt had no interest for making a self-loading pistols whatsoever (revolver was still #1 then).
