	Brownsea Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Brownsea Island is the largest of eight islands in Poole Harbour in Dorset, England.
		Brownsea Island's story is first recorded in the 7th century, when a hermit living on the island lit beacons to guide boats into the harbour.
		In the Second World War lights were placed on the island at night to divert the attention of bombers away from the nearby conurbation of Poole and Bournemouth, army camps on the Purbecks and the important naval base on the Isle of Portland.

		In the 1930s a Mrs Bonham-Christie turned the island in to a bird sanctuary and banned all visitors to the island.

	Brownsea Swim Report
		The only problem we had this year was the tides, in that they were on springs and due to an additional ferry arriving on the Island at 09:50hrs, we had to start the race 1hour and 25mins before the tide turned.
		Hats have to be taken off to the last swimmer home, Angela Medley who persevered against cramps, extreme cold and fatigue, but whom still managed to swim her way around the island in a time of 2 hours 40mins and 17secs, and took almost as long to warm up again.
		A big thank you to the National Trust, Brownsea Island, in particular Property Manager - Simon Lee, for allowing us to host the event again and for allowing us the use of their facilities, also, Duty Warden Darren Gridley-Haack, for organising the Ferries, to transport the swimmers to and from the Island for the race.

		Brownsea Reloaded was a 48-hour high-energy adventure that took place on the site of Baden-Powell’s first experimental Scout camp on Brownsea Island in August 2005, for Scouts and Guides aged between 12 and 18.
		The journey was not a short one but an onboard DVD courtesy of Squirrel Cam gave the young people their mission brief and an insight into the rest of Reloaded.
		David was one of the photographers on EuroJam 2005 and in 2007 he will be running the Replica Camp on Brownsea Island during the World Scout Jamboree.
