Millan, who is the commissioner responsible for the financing of development projects in the EU's poorer regions, was the keynote speaker at the 5th annual Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce (AHCC) conference on the Greek economy and its prospects, which opened in Athens yesterday.
Millan said there were positive elements this year, but stressed that the fiscal balance remained the Greek economy's main problem, describing the government's targets in that direction as "ambitious".
Millan that the targets of the Greek convergence programme were overly ambitious.
But BruceMillan, the Rep's founder and artistic director, wants his institution to be known, first and foremost, for one thing as it concludes its 40th season: good theater.
One incident that particularly raises Millan's ire is a recent award for "40 excellent years of community and artistic effort," something he seems to regard as a theatrical equivalent to being named Miss Congeniality.
Future plans are equally grand: Millan hopes to open a second theater across Woodrow Wilson from the current one and generate a cultural village between Davison and Webb streets that would include theater, film and television production facilities, as well as restaurants and retail development.
It was the applause of spectators schooled in a theatre where villains are punished in the end; some may have felt that Carol deserved punishment for her actions, while others may have settled for the uncritical position that Carol was villain simply because she was the one punished through violence in the end.
Either explanation was reinforced by director BruceMillan's choice to create a confrontational Carol who, from her first meeting with John, physically reacted to each her professor's suggestions with barely contained anger.
Millan staged the scene so that Carol used the computer monitor on the upstage side of John's desk as a podium while John cowered in his seat below, resembling a defendant in a criminal trial.
A report by the government-sponsored Millan committee calls for a new Mental Health Act to be introduced north of the border, together with reforms that will enable new community orders to allow patients to be compulsorily treated in the community.
The Millan committee, chaired by former Scottish secretary BruceMillan, was set up by the then Scottish health minister Sam Galbraith two years ago to review the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 1984.
Mr Millan said: "We believe that a new act is required, reflecting the huge changes in mental health care in recent years, and the greater recognition of the rights of mental health service users and their families.
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band: The Rising
In many ways, it is rather conventional -- a mostly acoustic collection that hearkens back to Bruce's origins as a singer-songwriter -- but it is this conventionality, in its acceptance of older American forms of music, where the disc hits its mark.
A record that's far removed in feel from the stark, haunting Nebraska, but on a song-for-song level, it's nearly as strong, since its stories linger in the imagination as long as the ones from that 1982 masterpiece.
When Bruce Springsteen finally broke through to national recognition in the fall of 1975 after a decade of trying, critics hailed him as the savior of rock & roll, the single artist who brought together all the exuberance of '50s rock and the thoughtfulness of '60s rock, molded into a '70s style.
Bruce Springsteen (born September 23, 1949) is an American singer and songwriter, nicknamed "The Boss".
Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born September 23, 1949 in Freehold, New Jersey.
Executive welcomes review of mental health legislation(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The Scottish Executive today welcomed the long-awaited review of Scotland's mental health legislation by BruceMillan's expert committee, and announced that a major policy statement would be published this summer setting out proposals to the Scottish Parliament for legislative change.
I want to thank BruceMillan and his committee for the huge amount of work they have done over the past two years.
The committee Chairman Rt Hon BruceMillan is a former Scottish Secretary and EC Commissioner.
The Millan Committee wants to see the introduction of a "more systematic approach to risk assessment and management" for people with mental disorders who commit serious offences.
The Millan Committee has also called for a new Mental Health Act to replace the current legislation, which dates back to 1984.
It said it should be possible for some patients to be compulsorily treated in the community rather than hospital, and has called for the introduction of a new independent tribunal to consider such measures.
We Shall Overcome lets us revel in the sound of a man who no longer confuses unplugged with uninspiring--and who isn't afraid to mix in some merriment with the message.
Springsteen sounds natural enough singing many of these songs, but we never forget that that's Bruce Springsteen -- Bruce "Born to Run," "Born in the USA" Springsteen -- singing these songs, and the necessary baggage that the rocker's voice brings with it raises unavoidable questions of intent.
I love Bruce but others have been here before and done this better.
Here and There is an unsentimental piece about love, decency and undying friendship that proves that humor is a potent tool for coping with life....and death.
Recently, he received the rarely given Special Recognition award from the Detroit Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) for his outstanding dedication to serving the metro-Detroit community in providing theatre that frequently presents important issues of concern to women.
Millan has assembled an experienced cast which includes three newcomers to the Repertory stage and two veterans.
A native Detroiter who now resides in Southfield, Makeupson lived for most of the first 30 years of her life on the corner of Boston and Woodrow Wilson, right down the street from the venerable theater company.
And although she hadn't attended the Rep for many years, an invitation this past January from a friend to see the production "No Niggers, No Dogs, No Jews" rekindled her relationship with the 46-year-old neighborhood institution and its Artistic Director, Bruce E. Millan.
"I saw Bruce there, and talked for a minute, and I said 'I really liked this, and I'd like to help you.' So I became a supporter of the theater.
Productions of Oleanna were also staged in Great Britain at the Theatr Clwyd and Salisbury Playhouse.
Additionally, in April 1996 Oleanna received an interesting interpretation at the Detroit Repertory Theatre where director BruceMillan created a confrontational Carol.
As played by Chris Ann Voudoukis, Carol clearly is baiting John (Harry Wetzel) from the play's opening moments to its climactic conclusion (see Oleanna reviews this edition).
The SLP was not successful and finally disbanded in 1979, although it is felt by those involved that it did exert influence on the Scottish political scene at the time.
The new Prime Minister Jim Callaghan appointed BruceMillan as Secretary of State for Scotland.
He in turn delegated much of the detail to a young advocate - JOHN SMITH.
It was either a question of selling some of the plenishings, the good Scots word for artefacts, of the castle or handing it to the National Trust for Scotland.
After much negotiation the Castle was acquired in 1978 by the Secretary of State for Scotland, at that time BruceMillan, using the National Land Fund procedures and handed to the National Trust as an avenue for keeping the castle and its contents together.
Ninian Brodie's last years were plagued by adversity.
