Pandolfini's book is a careful commentary on each of the six matches played in 1997.
Pandolfini constructs these phrases in the passive voice, however, thus removing the human subject from these sentences, and thereby making it seem, at least in the eyes of this National Master, as if the computer has passed the Turing's test.

You get some compensation for the extra reading from Pandolfini’s wit and sense of humor but it is not enough for you to really want to read the book from cover to cover.
Pandolfini is not direct enough; he usually gives in his answer a few options without deciding among them, thus leaving his reader with the same dilemma that the reader had in the beginning.
In fact Pandolfini’s anwers remind me of the oracles of Delphi, known for their obscure answers which bounced the question back to the person who had asked it.

The next book, Pandolfini's Endgame Course, by Bruce Pandolfini, has the usual introductory comments: "I quickly realized that endgame books were few and far between.
By the end of the book, Pandolfini has a few more difficult examples of basic rook endings and some simple minor piece endings; but since the bulk of the material is at an extremely elementary level, I wouldn't recommend it beyond that rating range.
At any rate, it's hard to see how Pandolfini has mediated between the two types of books he mentioned above, since they surely deal with more advanced material.
