Whether Bruchidae is retained as a family under the superfamily Phytophaga/Chrysomeloidea/Cerambycoidea, or merged with the family Chrysomelidae as a subfamily in view of its close relations with the subfamily Sagrinae has been discussed in the last two issues of this newsletter (Kingsolver, 1995; Reid, 1995).
Bruchidae show a combination of characters which define an obvious distinctiveness for the group and are well pointed out by Kingsolver (1995).
Larvae of Bruchidae are internal feeders of seeds, and mostly of leguminous plants.
