Bruckner Boulevard represents a surface street couplet that parallels the Bruckner Expressway southward from the Bronx Pelham Parkway to the Triborough Bridge.
That is the case in this photograph along Bruckner Boulevard westbound as adjacent Interstate 95 (Bruckner Expressway) southbound prepares to enter the Bruckner Interchange with Interstates 278, 295, and 678.

 Bruckner Expressway (I-278 and I-95)
An elaborate, high-speed interchange was planned for the intersection of the Bruckner Expressway, the Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95 and I-295) and the Hutchinson River Parkway, replacing the antiquated, underpowered Bruckner traffic circle and Unionport drawbridge.
When the Bruckner interchange was still under construction, the incomplete Bruckner section between the Sheridan Expressway (then signed as I-278) and the Bruckner traffic circle was posted by the New York State Department of Public Works (later NYSDOT) as I-878.
The NYSDOT is rebuilding the heavily traveled I-95 section of the Bruckner Expressway from the "Bruckner interchange" north to EXITS 8 B-C (Pelham Parkway).

Interstate 278 - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
Despite its number, it does not connect to I-78, though a western extension was planned to I-78 east of the Route 24 interchange.
The majority of I-278 is in New York City, serving local traffic; it passes through all five boroughs (though through Manhattan only because the Triborough Bridge crosses Wards Island, which is technically part of Manhattan).
The short New Jersey segment begins in Linden at the junction with U.S. Route 1/9 and goes east into Elizabeth to its other New Jersey interchange, with Route 439 (the original Goethals Bridge approach) and the New Jersey Turnpike (Interstate 95).

Bruckner Boulevard, which serves the Bruckner Expressway, coming from the west, is first joined by a ramp from the mainline to serve Zerega Avenue.
In the westbound direction, Bruckner Boulevard: 1) is met with ramps to and from the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway, 2) is joined on the right by a ramp from the southbound parkway, 3) is joined on the left by a ramp from I-278 westbound, and 4) finally leaves the traffic circle and intersects Brush Avenue.

The connection of the Cross Bronx to the Bruckner Expressway, which links it to the Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges into Queens as well as to the New England Thruway, is one of the most trafficked interchanges in the region.
Given its age and level of usage, it was no surprise that a decade ago when the New York State Department of Transportation investigated the condition of the interchange, it found some serious structural and design problems.
To renovate/redesign/reconstruct the interchange took the combined efforts of four engineering firms coordinated by HAKS Engineering, which functioned as construction manger.
