  Birds - Brunnich's Murre
In winter, when we see it here, it can be distinguished from Brunnich's murre only by its bill, which is half an inch longer.
Some specimens show a white ring or " eye-glass " around the eye and a white stripe behind it; but doubt exists as to whether such specimens are not a separate species.
Penguin and foolish guillemot are titles sometimes given to the common murre; but to add to popular confusion, they are just as frequently applied to Brunnich's murre.

 MORE BIRD HUNTING?
After a century of over hunting and extensive decreases in Greenlandic colonies of Brunnich's Guillemot (Thick-billed Murre) and Common Eider, the Greenland Home Rule issued a government notice last December banning hunting of these species after 15 February in accordance with international recommendations not to allow hunting after mid-winter.
To understand the seriousness of the problems, a few examples may illustrate the situation.
