Oklahoma´s early economy was closely tied to French traders and trappers who came to the area in the early 1700´s.
Bureau of Reclamation personnel met with McGee Creek Authority officials in February and March of 1988 to conduct "turnover" inspections of the Project dam, dike and pumping plant facilities and the aqueduct.
Oklahoma City, Soda, Atoka County, and the City of Atoka are provided with a supplemental municipal and industrial water supply from the McGee Project.

Locate a tree, brush pile or even an old stump on a submerged island or hump, and chances are good a hybrid is nearby waiting to ambush a meal.
Brush piles are baited and anglers can stand or sit in comfort and catch crappie.

The creek begins its life southeast of Huntsville near the small community of Boston in Madison County, then flows generally northwest across SH 68, through Winthrow Springs State Park to Beaver Lake just east of Bentonville and Rogers in Benton County of far northwestern Arkansas.
Brush and debris piles from dead-fall occasionally create potential strainers and entrapments that must be avoided, but they are minor problems for competent boaters.
The creek flows between the West Fork of the White River and Fayetteville to the west, and the Buffalo and Kings Rivers to the east, starting in Madison County and ending in Benton County just southeast of Rogers.

Arriving in Kansas City from their native Oklahoma, brothers James "Guy," Charles "Skeeter," and John "Vic" Willis, joined by bassists such as fellow Oklahoman Chuck Wright (shown right), forged a crowd-pleasing sound from bluegrass, Western swing, and country rhythms.
One of the favorites of the "Brush Creek Follies," and the show's longest-running regular performer, was Kansas City's genial cowboy, Colorado Pete.
The "Brush Creek Follies" was no exception, and, with the departure of Kit and Kay in the early '40s, KMBC quickly signed two new cowgirls to fill their boots.

Oklahoma there are but 3 CBC sight reports involving 5 birds representing the sum of winter records.
Although an "accidental" species in Oklahoma, further review of the 2004 Texas Ornithological Society "Handbook of Texas Birds" by Lockwood & Freeman, an investigation of National Audubon Christmas Bird Count records, coupled with a few additional winter sightings, a pattern of cyclical dispersal, of far greater magnitude generally appreciated in the literature, emerged.
One or two were subsequently reported throughout the season in the vicinity of this initial sighting by several members of the Oklahoma birding community.

The Greater Prairie-Chicken is a year-round resident locally from eastern North Dakota, northwestern and central Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and northern Michigan south to northeastern Colorado, Kansas, southern and northeastern Oklahoma, central Missouri, and southern Illinois; also in southeastern Texas.
The Greater Prairie-Chicken inhabits stands of natural tall or midgrass prairie, especially where natural grasslands are interspersed with moderate amounts of small-grain cropland.
Males favor slightly elevated open areas of short grassland for display grounds, which are approximately 1 acre in size and surrounded by dense grasses with some brush cover.

The Carl Jones Quartette would "...sing the good old fashioned spiritual songs..." Their spot on the show was known as "Hymn Time" and was one of the portions of the show that audiences enjoyed.
They said he had been with the show from the very start and wrote that his "...clever and breath-taking routines have always won him thunderous applause." Unfortunately, the photos accompanying the article don't show a picture of this gentleman who might be one of the few fl stars associated with early hillbilly / country music.

One of his bucks, Bear Creek BC T122 Mika, placed 6 th out of 117 in the 3 to 6 month old buck class at the 2006 ABGA Nationals held in Monroe, LA 12 - 17 June 2006.

Established in 1928 with just 288 acres, what is now Brush Creek State Forest was originally part of Shawnee State Forest.
As its size and number of segregated blocks increased over the years, however, a separate management plan was needed and a headquarters was established at its present site on Route 73, about one mile west of the village of Rarden, in 1950.
Primary access to Brush Creek is also along this route, either from Route 32 or Route 41 out of Adams County or the Portsmouth area to the south, on the border with Kentucky.
