Trams are double-ended and double-sided, and some stub termini in the middle of the road remain (55), although most have loops.
Very old trams, which still collect their current through trolley poles rather than pantographs, are normally restricted to the scenic line from Cinquantenaire park via Woluwe to Tervuren, which is run with the help of volunteers from the preservation society MTUB (Museum of Brussels Urban Transport).
As of 2005, Brussels tram 7037 is in San Francisco, intended to operate on line F, surreally repainted in the blue-and-white livery of Zürich.

 Tervuren - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is linked to Brussels by a magnificent processional avenue (Tervurenlaan/Avenue de Tervueren) built by king Leopold II in time for the Universal Exhibition of 1897.
This evolved in the castle of Tervuren, residence of the dukes of Brabant in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Tram 44 which goes from Brussels to Tervuren, and the Royal Museum for Central Africa are both in Tervuren thanks to King Leopold II.

The Brussels Metro is operated by Societé des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (STIB), which is also responsible for a 133km tram network (12km of which is in tunnels).
Brussels is also a central hub in the European high-speed rail network and main lines that radiate from the city are undergoing construction and upgrading as part of a Europe-wide initiative to link all the countries' capital cities with a high-speed rail network.

The Belgian constitution, approved on February 7, 1831, proclaimed Brussels as the capital and seat of the government of the new country of Belgium.
The positive experience with electric trams encouraged the Brussels Tramway Co to convert many existing lines and gradually to electrify the whole of the network To meet the demand for additional electric power, a new power station was opened on June 27, 1903 by King Léopold II.
The existing trams and trailers were modernised and a new series of car, the P.C.C. and classified as the 7000 series, was introduced.

 CANOE Money: Bombardier to supply more trams for Brussels, deal worth US$64 million
The deal is part of a five-year framework agreement reached in October 2003 and includes the maintenance of basic train bogies and propulsion equipment for 15 years, as well as the delivery of spare parts for 10 years, Montreal-based Bombardier (TSX:BBD.SV.B) said Wednesday.
Delivery of the low-floor trams is expected to take place between May 2007 and March 2008.
That event, held at the tramway museum in Brussels, was attended by Pascal Smet, Minister of Mobility of the Brussels Region, as well as political representatives and Bombardier executives.

As far as the trams are concerned, even though I've been to Brussels before, I have never taken any public transportation (except the train).
The 81 tram may get you slightly closer, but that line always runs older trams which are slow, very jerky (you better be hanging on tight if they make any sudden stops) and usually quite crowded.
Drivers in Brussels tend not to be particularly respectful of pedestrians...
