Bryan was a very complex man who had lined up behind every major liberal crusade of his life, and yet who used his political clout to get anti-evolution laws passed at the end of his life.
Gould was also close friends with Kirtley Mather, one of the scientists that Darrow had wanted to testify at Dayton; however, the judge would not allow their testimony, so Darrow put Bryan on the stand instead.
Gould himself was one of the six scientists who testified at the Arkansas trial; he had a great photo of him and Duane Gish standing in front of the courthouse in Little Rock, followed a similar photo with Gish replaced by Niles Eldridge.

BRYAN GOULD: I think that we have to move off the narrow territory of precise micro economic measures, industrial strategies, training proposals, all of those things which are very valuable in themselves but which by themselves can't do the job.
GOULD: I think the whole of British economic policy-making is infected by an excess of caution and excessive attachment to the interests of asset-holders, an excessive concern for short-term interests.

 NONZERO
Gould's politics are secular left, the opposite of creationist politics, and his outrage toward creationists is genuine.
Gould is a particular godsend to the more intellectual anti-evolutionists, who mount the sustained (and ostensibly secular) critiques that give creationism a veneer of legitimacy.
This is where Gould's aims, perversely, converge with those of the creationists: both, for their own philosophical reasons, want to depict the evolution of a human level of intelligence as spectacularly unlikely.

BBC NEWS | Politics | Gould's verdict on Blair & Co
Mr Gould says he ran for the leadership because he believed that going from Neil Kinnock's resignation after the 1992 election to an un-challenged John Smith as the next leader in the space of just one week was asking for trouble.
Mr Gould, who keeps in touch with some former colleagues and visits the UK yearly, said Charles Clarke, demoted from the Home Office to the backbench, was, in terms of ability, "the most serious challenger but he has conducted himself in a bizarre manner recently".
And while Mr Gould praises Leader of the Commons Jack Straw for being "a very sound operator" and "a politician to his fingertips", he is unlikely to make it further up the ladder.

In June 2004, Benson contracted with Concord lawyer Bryan Gould to represent him in two cases: a state Supreme Court appeal of a right-to-know ruling against Benson, and a planned challenge of a law that restricted Benson's ability to overhaul the state Medicaid program.
In letters obtained by the Concord Monitor, Gould and Benson made clear that Gould's work would be limited to those two cases and that he would charge the state an hourly rate of $190, a discount from his customary $225 rate.
Gould said he was not worried as months passed and Benson never issued him a check.

Gould says that Labour had 'failed to understand that the old working class was becoming a new middle class: aspiring, consuming, choosing what was best for themselves and their families'.
Gould's basic claim is that he has broken this circle by first and foremost addressing the needs and the concerns of the better off, presumably because, politically, the less well off have nowhere else to go.
