Where to start...Corel Bryce 5 is [great], I like 3D landscapes or what i call "starescapes".
The animations you can make are really cool as well, from simple, like a screw driving in to a 2x4, to complex, like a full length cartoon, Bryce 5 can do it, you can model cars from terrain plains, make "monsters" out of primitives, the boolean operations can make some wicked stuff.
