  Brynmawr Business
Brynmawr was by now, certainly showing signs of becoming a real town, and the increasing population began to cause problems.
In 1875, Brynmawr's increasing stature was acknowledged by its establishment as a separate ecclesiastical parish consisting of those parts of the parishes of Aberystruth, Llanelli and Llangatwg, which were within the urban area.
The tramroads which ran through Brynmawr had from the earliest days, brought in food produced in the agricultural areas in Breconshire and beyond, but it was from 1880 onwards, that the town really flourished as a trading centre.

Some of Brynmawr's earliest mining activity was concentrated here in the hills behind the town, where the earth was "patched" (the top layer of soil removed), and shafts were dug into the sides of the hills to extract coal and iron ore near the surface.
The mining of iron ore and the smelting of iron began near Brynmawr in the early 18th century, and the ruins of the works at Clydach are the closest surviving iron works to the town.

 Rumney v Brynmawr 05.05.2006
For their fourth try Kelly again took clean ball from the restart, put Niblett away on a forty metre burst and Clark again finished it off with a thirty five metre sprint, followed by the conversion.
Versatile hooker Neal Ritchie came on for Rumney and was soon in the action at a Brynmawr scrum deep in the home side's territory.
Ritchie and Gale were now running like extra threequarters, and in the seventieth minute a long pass from Clark found O'Donoghue out wide where the powerful forward capped a superb performance by plucking the difficult ball out of the air and sidestepping his way to the line for his second try.
