 Mindzine Chess News - 25 October 1999 - MSO
Bu, born in 1985 on December 10, needs to have his title approved within the next two months to break Ponomariov's record.
Bu, however, managed to put together a blistering finish with fives wins and two draws, bringing him up to the six point target.
There should be no doubt concerning Bu's talent, but sceptics might find it a bit strange how two of his opponents "lost their marbles" at the most critical stage of the game.

Bu within smelling distance of landmark Chinese boy set to become youngest GM
Bu, who completed the requirements in October 1999, would have figured in the January list under normal circumstances but the Chinese federation had not put forward his title application to Fide, the world chess federation.
Born on December 10, 1985 in Qingdao, the coastal city of China, Bu learned the moves at the age of six and at 12, he finished fourth in the World under-12 championship in France.
If Bu can brace himself up to become the next world champion in the near future, it would be a great double for China.

In the final round, against the 15-year-old Chinese grandmaster Bu Xiangzhi, Acs showed off a superior grasp of positional play, followed by an incisive mating attack.

So, Bu chose the fatalistic 27 f3, letting his king be driven into the open.
