  AAW: Bubblegum Crisis Review
The character design in Bubblegum Crisis, by Kenichi Sonoda, is attractive, with a noticeably more mature look to several of the women, and though the art and backgrounds are a bit inconsistent, they generally look good enough and improve significantly as the series progresses.
Despite the sort-of-sequels, Bubblegum Crash and Bubblegum Crisis 2040, my first recommendation if you liked Bubblegum Crisis would be AD Police Files; it is much darker, more realistic, and stylish than the series that spawned it, and arguably better, too.
Bubblegum Crisis is one of the first OAV series, and is largely responsible for the current proliferation of them.

Bubblegum Crash was even less commercially successful than its predecessor.
Fans maintain that the storyline of Crash was inferior, the characters were transformed into two dimensional caricatures, and the character development was nonexistent.

 Review - Anime News Network
Bubblegum Crash is the conclusion to the Bubblegum Crisis series.
Bubblegum Crash starts out with a fairly good scenario: the Knight Sabers are growing apart, but there seems to be a new menace.
This is perhaps the one of the biggest flaws in Crash, especially to a BGC fan (and notably the same complaint many fans have with the 2040 series).

While ADV Films' Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 is arguably the best of the series (simply because it's newer and has the advantage of improved animation technology), the first two series stand up surprisingly well on their own.
Bubblegum Crash does take place "in continuity" after the original Bubblegum Crisis series, so I'd recommend wathcing that series prior to watching this one for the full effect.
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 is a "re-visioning" of the original Bubblegum Crisis series and does not really fit into the same continuity as the original Crisis and Crash.

dOc DVD Review: Bubblegum Crash: Total Crash Collection (1991)
Bubblegum Crash, a three part OVA released two years after the Crisis prequel, AD Police, is a marked departure from the tone set in the original, however, I found that it presented its own style very well, if not quite up to par with its predecessor or the much later remake, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040.
Bubblegum Crash can be regarded as an alternate universe for the series, since there are distinct differences in the technologies employed that don't fit a linear continuity.
Bubblegum Crash, collected here in its entirety, has its own merits, but must be approached without preconceived ideas for full enjoyment value.

However, the three-episode sequel known as Bubblegum Crash was treated like the ugly redheaded stepchild, a show that was neither loved nor respected.
Once I could deal with the fact that this was not the same world as the original, that for all intents and purposes the characters had grown up, I could settle in and enjoy that it was solidly written and well paced.
Ultimately, I give Bubblegum Crash a B overall, the same rating I gave Bubblegum Crisis.

Bubblegum Crisis is, in simple terms, a classic.
The premise of BGC (what is man? what is machine?) is an age-old premise that exists for such literary classics as Frankenstein.
In most cases, BGC is superior to the listed shows, but in others, it is not purely because those others were less obsessed with making a profit and more interested in getting a point across to the audience.

Although plagued by budget and personnel problems, the original BUBBLEGUM CRISIS OVA attracted a large and faithful fan following and subsequently spawned a series of seven follow-up episodes, each of which expanded upon the concepts and story of the original.
