Erlenmeyer flask - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An Erlenmeyer flask (also known as a conical flask) is a type of laboratory glassware which consists of an inverted conical base with a cylindrical neck.
However the main difference is that conical flasks may be stoppered using rubber bungs, so as the contents of the flask may be mixed or transported safely.
The flask is not usually used when heating substances vigorously, this task usually being left to the Florence flask.

Fisher Scientific UK - I wondered if you could let me know how much vacuum a buchner flask is designed to withstand.
Buchner flasks will withstand up to 2 bar pressure and will go down to a full atmospheric vacuum.
Bibby have never known of a Buchner flask to be damaged during vacuum use and have asked if there was any slight damage to the flask prior to use.
The reason for this question was that any Buchner flask with either a minor bruise crack, bubbles in the glass or badly scratched area would indeed be weakened by vacuum use.

 Molecular Mixology: Buchner Funnel
A Buchner funnel will filter liquids in a fraction (think seconds) of the time and the costs of this device is relatively cheap (about $60).
The funnel is connected to the vacuum flask with a rubber stopper.
The Buchner funnel allows you to remove the filter paper with the collected filtrate, where you can scrape it into a vial for storage or analysis.

However, if the flask was not properly sealed, some or even most of the oxygen produced from the reaction will escape and very little will be collected at the measuring cylinder.
Through the hole in the bung of the sealed flask, inject the hydrogen peroxide onto the liver extract.
The Buchner flask was used instead of the standard test tube because it provides a larger surface area for the reaction to take place, leaving more of the catalase for exposure.

The flask should be free of chips or cracks that could cause the flask to implode when the interior pressure is reduced (a vacuum is initiated).
A Buchner funnel or fritted-glass crucible should be small enough that the surface of the filter is completely covered, but large enough to contain all of the solid as a thin layer.
The required equipment includes: a thick-walled Buchner filter flask with a side arm, a Buchner funnel, properly sized filter paper, an adapter, a filter trap, and the mixture to be filtered.
