 Music Fast Horse rides in
R.E.M.’s Peter Buck has been part of the indie-music landscape for more than two decades, ever since 1981, when his then-scrappy band from Athens, Georgia, put out their first 45, "Radio Free Europe." Longer, really, if you count his days as a record-store clerk and fan.
In interviews and conversations Buck hardly ever fails to mention a new band, rare singles, or a foreign sound he’s just fallen upon, often proselytizing with the same fervor white blues artists had for their African-American idols in the 1960s.
Meanwhile, Buck says he and his Fast Horse partners have been speaking to many artists, but what’s certainly on the schedule is a live Tuatara disc and another album from Davis.

The Stranger - News - Feature - Time of Their Season
Buck also cites modern bands like the Shins as continuing to carry on the Zombies' sonic tradition, a cultish appreciation that originally came from three well-known singles--"She's Not There" (1964), "Tell Her No" (1965), and "Time of the Season" (1969)--and a much later fervor for the band's compilations and box sets.
As Buck was about to call one of his all-time artistic heroes, the Zombies fan explained his passion for the band: "They're the most harmonically complex band of the '60s, and rhythmically, a lot of it had to do with the way jazz is played.
You know, the thing you've got to remember is that most of the bands from the '60s that did really great work lasted long enough that people could see them, like, in a real concert situation, with a real PA that worked, and they could play more than 15 minutes.
