The surname Strickland is usually thought of as being English in origin but its true orgins are in Normandy, the original spelling of the name was de Stirkeland.
The family name of Strickland first came to notice at the (Battle of Agincourt 25 October}, 1415) when Thomas Strickland Esquire carried the Flag of St George (Dismounted as he was a knight in training).
Sir Walter Strickland fought against the Scots during their incursions into the English Marches and also fought for the House of Lancaster during the War of the Roses.

Strickland Propane is a fictional propane and propane accessories supplier in the animated series King of the Hill.
Buck Strickland owns the company, headquartered at 135 Los Gatos Road in Arlen, Texas, though he delegates most of the day-to-day responsibilities to his 41-time employee of the month, assistant manager Hank Hill.
Buck is further known for his problems with heart disease, with Hank pointing out once that he "has open heart sugery once a year." Despite having had multiple cases of infarction throughout the course of the series, Strickland is often shown eating extremely unhealthy foods.
