 Idaho Hot Springs: Buckhorn Hot Springs
Buckhorn was tough to reach on this trip because of the last blast of spring runoff.
After dropping down to Buckhorn Creek and fording on a fallen tree to the meadow campsite I was greeted by views of a submerged meadow.
We passed a few trail bikes to and from Buckhorn, and while we were camped we could hear the bikes buzzing to and from the nearby lake.

 The Lost Community of Bowlingtown
Long before Buckhorn Lake was created and the state park established in 1964, a small community flourished for many generations here, along the middle fork of the Kentucky River.
In 1960, when the construction of Buckhorn Lake began, Bowlingtown had to be abandoned and families relocated.
He refused to visit Buckhorn Lodge or the lake because he and many others were adamant that it should have been named Bowlingtown.

This lake has not been stocked since the 1980's when both Brook Trout and Rainbow were stocked.
For the kids, a large number of suckers can be readily enticed to take a bite and the adults can easily fill a stringer with pan sized rainbow with the odd 1-2 pounder, using the traditional methods both off shore and by trolling.
Frost Lake is located nearby and contains excessive small rainbow trout.
