Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is a railway museum operated by the Quainton Railway Society Ltd. at Quainton Road railway station, in the far depths of "Metro-land", about 5 miles (8 Km) west of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire.
Separating the two halves is a Network Rail goods line, formerly the mainline used by the Great Central Railway and the Metropolitan Railway via the Metropolitan and Great Central Railways Joint Committee.

All was not lost, however, as the London and North Western Railway commissioned the same builders to construct their new station in Rewley Road, Oxford, to a similar design and using similar building techniques.
When the station closed to passengers it was used as an engineman's hostel, a tyre and exhaust centre and latterly as a car rental establishment before falling into decay.
The Visitor Centre now provides excellent facilities as well as a unique environment in which prize examples from the Centre's extensive collection of locomotives and carriages, as well as a selection of smaller items, may be displayed to the public.

There is an account of the mines and railway in a paper to the Institution of Civil Engineers by Claude Kinder, the British engineer for the railway.
Peter Crush tracked the photo to a collection in the National Army Museum in the UK, and established the the two persons on the left in photo 2 persons are British soldiers, which suggests that this was photo was taken at an entirely different time.
Rocket is unlikely to have been built much after 1882, as Kinder goes on to say in his paper that two six-coupled tank locos were purchased from Robert Stephenson and Co in 1882 and "the Rocket was then consigned to shunting work and light ballast trains".

BASH is a section of the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society dedicated to the restoration of the Bluebell's Ashbury-built Metropolitan Railway Coaches.
This, along with a Metropolitan Railway steam loco, electric loco and milk van, is preserved in the London Transport Museum, who have been very helpful to us.
Three later Metropolitan Railway Coaches are preserved by the Vintage Carriages Trust, and occasionally run on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, and an example of the more modern "T-Stock" is preserved on the Spa Valley Railway.

The main railway companies have tended to name their passenger locomotives but not the humble shunting engines.
In 1931 the London Midland and Scottish Railway Royal Scot 4-6-0 express locomotive No.6159 became the first locomotive to carry a name associated with military aeronautics; it was named 'The Royal Air Force' and ran until November 1962.
British Railways withdrew them by September 1964 and sole survivor 5080 Defiant is owned by the Birmingham Railway Museum, Tyseley and currently on loan to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton Road, pending an overhaul.

The line eventually reached the village of Brill itself in 1872, a response to the local villagers who felt that their village would benefit from a connection to the main railway network.
Single track throughout, the little line connected with the Metropolitan at Quainton Road and the line was soon a success despite the fact that the journey took over an hour because of the frequent stops at the various crossing places on the line.
This museum at the former Quainton Road station of the Metropolitan Railway includes many exhibits of interest to followers of LT railways, not the least of which is the ex-Metropolitan 0-4-4T of 1898 and an ex-GWR, ex-LT 0-6-0PT dating from 1930.
